11.1.2007 - huppu kuuseen

Täällä on ensi yönä yhtä kylmä kuin etelä-Suomessa! Jos yöllä onkin -3, päivälle on luvattu 8 astetta. Kävimme (naapuriston ehdotuksesta) heittämässä lakanoita sitruunapuun päälle, jottei sille tapahtuisi enempiä tuhoja. Lämmitin pauhaa ja nakuttaa, muttei oikein jaksa pitää koko kämppää lämpöisenä. Ei muuta kuin kuppi kuumaa teetä ja peitto korviin. Voisikin alkaa kutoa villasukkia...

Tonight it is going to be as cold here as in the south of Finland. The night forecast is for -3C, the day will warm up to +8C. The neighbourhood email list recommended protecting sensitive citrus plants, and we threw some bed sheets over the lemon tree to keep it from further harm. Indoors, our gas heater is clicking and gushing away, but not really able to keep things warm. It's time to tuck in and sip a hot cup of tea. And maybe knit a pair of woolly socks...

Hi there, how do you like the gas heater otherwise? I heard it may cause excessive water condensation in the house, so it may feel damp. Do you notice anything like that? Mid-summer is a good time as any to start looking for a heater for next winter...

I would agree with the damp feel comments. We do tend to get condensation in the windows when a room gets too cold. I found that maintaining heat helps. Also, the best thing is before going to bed (our bedroom does not have a heater and stays cold), letting your duvet/peitto tumble for a few minutes in the dryer. It comes out warm and quite a bit dryer, and makes for sweeter, warmer, better sleep...

For those not in the know, this refers to the frustrating lack of predictability as to when the "heat wave" (anything above 77F) might arrive. 11.8.2008 - Tyttöenergian uudet ulottuvuudet

Mitä kuuluu, pitkästä aikaa? Et ole ehtinyt paljon blogia päivittää? - no, onhan tässä ollut kaikkea tekemistä. Muutettiin juuri, ja sitä ennen yritettiin täällä vähän remontoida. Nyt on ollut tavaroiden purkamista, ja keittiön viimeistelyä. Kaikkea pientä vielä tekemättä - seinien maalausta, yhden lattian vaihto matosta korkkiin, sellaista. Ihan kivalta alkaa näyttää. How are you? Long time... You haven't been blogging much recently? - Well, we've been kind of busy. We moved house just a few weeks ago, before that we were busy fixing up the place. Now we have been unpacking, finishing the kitchen. All kinds of small stuff still to be done - painting walls, changing out the carpet. But it's starting to look nice. 30.4.2006 - vappua!

No niin koitti tännekin kivat kesäilmat vihdoinkin. Lounaseväät kattoterassilla ovat oivallinen tapa katkaista muuten pitkät päivät. Tässä näyttää kovin aurinkoiselta, mutta varjopuolella on vähän viileää vielä. Finally! The warm summery days have arrived here too. Lunch on the sunny roof terrace is a great way to take a break in an otherwise long workday. This looks warm, even hot, but in the shade it is actually still a bit cool. Vappu on kuulemma Suomessa tänä vuonna lämmin ja poutainen! Miten hienoa! Täällä juhlittiin vappuaattoa meidän etupihalla grillaten. Tarjolla oli nakkeja ja perunasalaattia, vihreää salaattia ja jälkkäriksi mansikoita ja jäätelöä. Kavereita tuli niin paljon että tarvittiin naapureidenkin tuolit... Unohdin, harmi vain, ostaa ilmapalloja ja serpentiiniä. Ai niin, kyllä poksautettiin myös pari skumppapulloa. Sen verran siistit juhlat kylläkin, ettei ylioppilaslakkiin tullut yhtään uusia tahroja.
