Viikonloppuna lähilehdessä oli lyhyt juttu postinkantajastamme. Tuo iloisesti tervehtivä ja silloin tällöin koiraansa Rustya ulkoiluttava Charlie on vapaailtoinaan Elvis. Postimiehemme on kolahtanut täysin Elvis-karaokeen. Tähteyttä siivittääkseen hän on kasvattanut pulisongit, kunnon otsakiehkuran ja värjännyt ne mustiksi. Lauantaina törmäsimme häneen ja hän kertoi, että hän tykkäsi aina kuunnella musiikkia ja halusi jotenkin olla aktiivisesti siinä mukana. Kuulemma hän ensin rupesin tanssimaan, mutta eihän niitä tanssikuvioitakaan loputtomasti ole. Lopulta hän löysi karaoken, ja loppu onkin historiaa. Postimiehemme esiinty silloin tällöin juhlissa ja hyväntekeväisyyspippaloissa kultalameepuvussaan. Kun vielä olisin muistanut kysyä kuuluuko hänen ohjelmistoonsa myös Elvis-klassikko "Return to Sender"...
There was a little story about our mailman in the local newspaper. Charlie, who always greets us cheerfully and sometimes can be seen walking his old dog Rusty, turns into Elvis on his nights off. Our postman is nuts about Elvis karaoke. To truly deliver on his star performance he has grown the appropriate sideburns, front lock and dyed them black. We bumped into him on Saturday and he told us how he always liked to listen to music but also wanted to participate in it somehow. He took up dancing, but there are only so many dance moves you can do. Finally he discovered karaoke, and the rest is history. Our mailman performs at parties and charity functions every once in a while, dressed in his gold lame suit. Unfortunately I forgot to ask if his repertoire includes the Elvis classic "Return to Sender"...
