15.5.2006 - lämmöllä

Viimeiset pari päivää on ollut niin lämmintä, ettei kämppä meinaa illallakaan oikein jäähtyä. Auringossa on KUUMA. Töissä on joko kuuma tai kylmä, mutta sellaista se ilmastointi on. Koiraparkaa käy vähän sääli, mutta se kyllä on oppinut etsimään viileimmän huoneen aina itselleen päivänokosten ajaksi. Jokohan ne persvillat alkavat pikkuhiljaa pudota...

The summer weather and the heat have arrived, to the extent that the apartment does not cool down very well even at night. The sun is HOT. At work we are either in sauna or in a meat locker. At home poor Karo has to figure out the coolest room for her to stay in during the day. Surely by now her woolly winter pants will start to come off...

Karon uusi kävelyttäjä aloitti tänään, oikein mukava tyttö ja suuri koirien ystävä. Karo kävi taas eläinlääkärissä, ei mitään vakavaa, sille vaan iski viime yönä vatsakipu, ja kun yleensä herään siihen, että Karo läähättää ja raapii sängynreunaa, tällä kertaa heräsin siihen kun kolmekymmentä kiloa surkeanoloista koiraa hyökkää kainaloon turvaan. Vatsaa väänsi ja sitä sitten paranneltiin kiertämällä kulmia neljästä viiteen aamulla. Eläinlääkärit kehuivat Karon yhteistyökykyä, antoivat sille nesteitä ja määräsivät lääkettä toistuvia ripuleita estämään. Ottivat vielä röntgenkuvat ettei vatsassa ole mitään tukoksia. Ei ollut. Surkuttelivat kyllä Karon selkänikamien jamaa. Eipä sen selkä kyllä enää oikein taivukaan, mutta vielä pärjäilee.

Karo´s new dog walker started today, a very nice girl and a great dog person. Karo on the other hand had another vet visit. Nothing dangerous, but we wanted to take her in because of some stomach pains she had last night. Usually she wakes us up by scratching the bed and panting. This time I got sixty pounds of miserable dog into my arms, looking for consolation. We tried to ease it off and walked around the neighbourhood between four and five, then went back to sleep for a bit. The vets liked Karo and admired her easygoing nature. They gave her saline and medication for the recurring diarrhea episodes. They also took an x-ray to make sure there was no obstruction - it was fine. They did remark on the sorry state of her back, though. She cannot really bend it anymore, but she gets around still.

 A few summers ago, I saw an advert in Helsinki that tried to catch the attention of consumers with some brutal honesty. It said: Summer - the best day of the year. For those not in the know, this refers to the frustrating lack of predictability as to when the "heat wave" (anything above 77F) might arrive. And similarly, the frustrating briefness of this warm happy time. Hence - it's the best day of the year.  But for the remaining seasons, there is another highlight - the first snow. 11.8.2008 - Tyttöenergian uudet ulottuvuudet

Mitä kuuluu, pitkästä aikaa? Et ole ehtinyt paljon blogia päivittää? - no, onhan tässä ollut kaikkea tekemistä. Muutettiin juuri, ja sitä ennen yritettiin täällä vähän remontoida. Nyt on ollut tavaroiden purkamista, ja keittiön viimeistelyä. Kaikkea pientä vielä tekemättä - seinien maalausta, yhden lattian vaihto matosta korkkiin, sellaista. Ihan kivalta alkaa näyttää. How are you? Long time... You haven't been blogging much recently? - Well, we've been kind of busy. We moved house just a few weeks ago, before that we were busy fixing up the place. Now we have been unpacking, finishing the kitchen. All kinds of small stuff still to be done - painting walls, changing out the carpet. But it's starting to look nice. No nyt taisit jättää jotain kertomatta. - no joo... I think you still have something to tell! - well yes... On vähän maha kasvanut! - On on, ja syystäkin. 30.4.2006 - vappua!

No niin koitti tännekin kivat kesäilmat vihdoinkin. Lounaseväät kattoterassilla ovat oivallinen tapa katkaista muuten pitkät päivät. Tässä näyttää kovin aurinkoiselta, mutta varjopuolella on vähän viileää vielä. Finally! The warm summery days have arrived here too. Lunch on the sunny roof terrace is a great way to take a break in an otherwise long workday. This looks warm, even hot, but in the shade it is actually still a bit cool. Vappu on kuulemma Suomessa tänä vuonna lämmin ja poutainen! Miten hienoa! Täällä juhlittiin vappuaattoa meidän etupihalla grillaten. Tarjolla oli nakkeja ja perunasalaattia, vihreää salaattia ja jälkkäriksi mansikoita ja jäätelöä. Kavereita tuli niin paljon että tarvittiin naapureidenkin tuolit... Unohdin, harmi vain, ostaa ilmapalloja ja serpentiiniä. Ai niin, kyllä poksautettiin myös pari skumppapulloa. Sen verran siistit juhlat kylläkin, ettei ylioppilaslakkiin tullut yhtään uusia tahroja.
